No Rain No Pain

I would be the last one to complain about sunny weather, that is until I was running extremely low on water for my cabin and garden that is supplied by a rain catchment system.  This last month has been beautiful here on Kodiak Island, even verging what I would consider Hot.  Temperatures in the 70's sun every day.  It was paradise.... But in the back of my mind I was secretly wishing for some rain.  I finally got my wish.  It has been raining for the last 7 days, and even though I have gotten spoiled by all of the sunny hot weather, what a blessing.  Our water holding tanks got filled, my garden is being watered naturally by the sometimes torrential downpours, and I am being reminded of what Alaska really is.  In between the rain and wind we get spells of sun.  Other parts of the state have different ecosystems, such as Fairbanks, which is in the interior.  It is normal for them to be hot and sunny, then they get fiercely cold and dry winters with temperatures into the 30 below zeros.  Burrrr.... I prefer to live in the coastal environment where even though can be unpleasant in the winter with sometimes snowy and cold then all of a sudden rain and wind, but it is what I am comfortable with.  Some people thrive in the interior.  If you like snow machines or dog sleds it is a paradise.  I have heard they have wonderful Northern Light shows in the winter.  I have seen my share of Northern Lights growing up in Southeast Alaska and Kodiak, but it is so different all around the state anywhere you go.  The people, the culture, the attitude, and the environment.  I believe there is something for everyone in Alaska.  There are cities like Anchorage, small quaint towns and little villages of about 300 to 400 people.  Mostly every place has daily Alaska Airlines Jet service where you can easily travel international if you wish.  Alaska is a great state with many opportunities in most fields of work.  If you have ever dreamed about coming to Alaska whether it be on a vacation or a big move I would be happy to talk to you about any questions you may have.  I know a lot of good places and activities that would interest you, and resources to look for work and housing if you are planning a move.  I Love living in the Wilds of Alaska and can consult you on that kind of lifestyle if you are curious!
